Practice Tests
Your tutor will tell you when you are ready to start completing practice
tests. Practice tests are important for these reasons:
- to get used to answering questions in the time allowed
- to get used to the 'style' and 'language' of the questions (you might have the skills but not understand how you should respond to certain types of question)
- to see which areas you might need to brush up on.
There are mock exams available for Functional Skills and the Unitised Awards.
If you are eager to test out your skills, why don't you try one of the following activities and ask your tutor to mark it?
For English:
1. You are an employee at Carter's Garage. Write a letter to your manager (Mr David Stocks), asking for a day off to attend your brother's wedding, using the correct layout. Not sure what this should be - why not look on Key Skills Trainer or BBC Skillswise?
For Maths:
1. You have just moved into a new flat, and have £300 left to furnish the final room, your study. Using at least two online shops or catalogues (you could try Argos and Ikea for example), furnish the room with at least one desk, a desk chair, a bookcase and a side table, keeping to your budget. Show all your workings out.
Too easy? Try to do these activities in half an hour.
